We all fear wrinkles. We do our best on a daily basis to beat them, or even prevent them, however, it turns out that not all wrinkles are the same. Apparently, we fall into the mistake of believing that each one of them come as a result of “aging”, and as a result we treat them all equally, ignoring that each one of them can have a different cause and ultimately different treatment.
Today, we will analyze the 4 main types of wrinkles, their causes, and what to do about them.

4 Different Wrinkle Types:

1.-  Dynamic Expression Lines: This kind of lines appear and disappear from your face depending on your facial expression. These are the crow feet that appear when you laugh or the “eleven” line that shows between your eyebrows when you are concentrated.
Facial Area Affected: These expression lines usually appear around your mouth, eyes, and forehead.
The Reason: They come as a result of age, and basically of laughing and living life. People with really expressive facial gestures get this type earlier than those who don’t use gestures that much.

2.- Static Wrinkles: These type of wrinkles are evident even when you are not making any gesture. They are also known as gravitational folds, and as their name indicates they come as a result of time and gravity.
Facial Area Affected: Around the eyes and cheeks.
The Reason: This particular kind of wrinkles appear in people with finer skin, and they come as a result of time and age.

3.- Elastic Creases: These are the small creases that often form on different parts of the face. In most cases, they end up becoming static wrinkles as we age.
Facial Area Affected: Cheeks, upper lips and neck.
The Reason: These are more propense of appearing in people with thick skin, due to the weight of the skin, and in those who smoke.

4.- Athropic Wrinkles: These are the parallel lines that appear on your forehead when you furrow your brow. They represent a loss of tissue structure within the skin.
Facial Area Affected: They can occur on your face, or anywhere on your body (think of those little wrinkles you may have on your chest.)
The reason: Loss of collagen and unfortunately sun damage.

What To Do About Them?

1.- Use Prevention Techniques: Most of us wait until we are 45 to start taking care of our skin. We hear the typical “You are too young” for these things very often. Unfortunately, we have a tendency to react to them when they are already there. Treating your skin with age-appropriate serums, and antioxidant hydrating lotions will help ensure that your skin is moist and protected.

2.- Wear SPF Daily: According to Skincancer.org, 90% of visible skin aging is caused by sun exposure and subsequent damage. Consequently,  those who protect their skin with regularity have 25% fewer chances to show increased signs of aging. Make sure to wear a daily moisturizer that includes broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection of at least SPF 30, and if you are active under the sun make sure to re-apply it every couple of hours.

3.- Sleep Well: Most of us have a horrible tendency to go to bed late and wake up early. This is definitely one of the biggest causes of premature aging, saggy eyes, and undereye bags. Sticking to a night routine of going to bed by 10 is a great way to ensure your 8 hours of proper sleep. Consider sleep part of your beauty/anti-aging routine and make an effort to be persistent.

4.- Wear Good Quality Products: Wearing the same lotion that you use for your body will not do your facial skin any favors. So our recommendation is to invest in a good line of facial skincare that is suitable for your needs. Remember, good facial care will not be cheap, and if it’s cheap, chances are that it won’t be very good.

5.- Skip That Buzz: We understand that you want to enjoy that cup of red wine at that fancy meal, and that is okay. However, feasting on margaritas every weekend is not a good idea when it comes to preserving your skin’s youth because of dehydration and premature skin aging.

6.- Try Stem Cell Therapy: After at least 2 decades of research, stem cells therapy has been found to be the answer to many aging aches. It comes with the promise of a quick recovery, pain-free and safe procedure which doesn’t require surgery. It improves collagen levels in patients. Increased collagen leads to the preservation of the skin as it slows the aging process at a cellular level, thus allowing the skin to keep its youthful glow and bright appearance for a longer time.

Remember that in the path of taking care of your skin and treating wrinkles, patience and perseverance are key.  Follow our tips and you will notice improved skin in no time!
