Testosterone is a hormone produced by the male body in the testicular area. It is responsible for regulating sex drive (libido), bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and strength, and the production of red blood cells and sperm.

Today, we will analyze 7 common signs that might indicate low testosterone production.

Low Sex Drive

Low libido is one of the first indicators of low testosterone. Of course, it is normal to feel low desire if you are chronically exhausted or stressed out. However, if you start noticing that your drive is off, it might be an indicator.

Low Semen Volume

The normal semen volume is about 1.5 to 5 milliliters per ejaculation. This would be about a teaspoon at the most. However, if you notice that your semen volume is decreasing drastically (compared to your normal volume) it can be a symptom.

Hair Loss

Testosterone plays a major role in hair production. Although hair loss can happen due to genetics, stress, and other factors, a good indicator to tell if this is due to low T is checking your facial and body hair. Testosterone is responsible for all hair strength so if you notice the loss or missing spots in your beard, or on your chest, this might be the cause.

Increased Body Fat

It is normal to gain fat after a few weeks of skipping the gym. However, if the gain comes with Gynecomastia ( enlarged breast tissue ) a decrease in your T hormone is the one to blame.

Mood Swings

Since testosterone has a big impact on your mood, and focus, a lack of it can be linked to depression, irritability, and mood swings.

Smaller Testicle Size

According to different studies, men with low testosterone production have a proportionally smaller penis and testicles than those with normal production.

However, there are many other reasons why this can happen, so dont take this as the main indicator.

Anemia

A decrease in your blood count is another indicator of low testosterone production and can produce anemia as a result. Some of the common symptoms can include problems concentrating, dizziness, leg cramping, problems sleeping, and an abnormally rapid heart rate.

If you notice that you have 3 or more of the symptoms mentioned above, we highly encourage you to visit your family doctor and run a blood test to determine if your hormones are at normal levels or not

The standard testosterone production ranges from 300 to 1,000 ng/dL, according to the Food and Drug Administration. So anything below 300 would be considered as low production and will require adequate medication to regularize.
