Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an umbrella term to describe progressive lung conditions such as ephysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma.

COPD Symptomatology

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is an obstructive condition in which lungs swell, get mucus, and ultimately, they are unable to exchange oxygen or CO2. Although the main symptomatology can be associated with breathlessness, it is also associated with the following signs:

  • Fatigue
  • Challenges in performing physical activity
  • Wheezing
  • Chest tightness
  • Coughing

COPD Stages

According to the the Global Initiative for Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), there are 4 stages of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and they are all related to pulmonary decline:

  • Stage 1; Mild: The patient has 80% pulmonary function left. Lung function starts to decline but it’s almost unnoticeable.
  • Stage 2; Moderate: 50-80% pulmonary function left. Symptomatology starts developing and the shortness of breath starts increasing.
  • Stage 3; Severe: 30-50% pulmonary function left. Recurrent breathlessness, with the emergence of COPD exacerbations such viral infections of the lungs. COPD symptoms flare up.
  • Stage 4;  Extremely severe: Less than 30% pulmonary function left. Life-threatening, and absolute life impairment.

As COPD condition advances, the oxygen income reduces drastically. This forces the body to require the oxygen more to protect the most vital functions (heart, brain functioning), which affects the muscles, mobility,  and other functions dramatically.

Stem Cell Therapy for COPD

Stem cells are proven to regulate proinflammatory markers. They take care of the TNF Alpha, thus reducing pulmonary cell death.  The main goal of the treatment is to protect the pulmonary cells from dying, increase pulmonary function, and to improve the patient’s overall living conditions.

Benefits of Stem Cell Therapy for COPD

The following benefits of stem cell therapy are visible only a few days after treatment:

  • Immune System Boost: COPD patients are prone to pulmonary infections so boosting their immune system is key to protecting their health and pulmonary function.
  • Reverse Pulmonary Hypertension: Stem Cell Therapy (SCT) reduces vascular resistance and creates a positive effect in ventricular hypertrophy (enlargement and thickening of the walls of your heart’s ) due to overworking of the lungs.
  • Antibacterial Effect:  COPD patients are prone to develop infections. SCT boosts the response of the patient to be protected against infections in the future.
  • Protection Against Fibrosis: SCT helps to prevent fibrosis by reducing neutrophil influx (a typical allergic reaction that can lead to fibrosis), inflammation and collagen depositions, thus improving lung functioning and oxygenation.

After stem cell therapy patients can recover up to 15% of their pulmonary functions and in many severe cases, they were able to breathe without an oxygen tank again. Additionally, up to 85% of our patients report an improvement in their life quality, which includes being healthier, stronger, more energized, and overall happier.

In COPD, as in most illnesses, prevention is the key, and the sooner you get the therapy the better the results, and the less the advancement. Don’t wait until you are not able to do what you love. Contact us, recover your health, and gain control of your body today.
